Introduction

Welcome to SkiRoute! This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our ski navigation app. Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to being transparent about our practices.

Information We Collect

Location Data

SkiRoute requests access to your device's location for one purpose: to automatically detect which ski resort you are at and center the map accordingly. Your location is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. We do not store, log, or share your location.

Analytics Data (Anonymous)

We use PostHog Analytics to understand how people use SkiRoute. This helps us improve the app and add features you'll love. The data collected is completely anonymous and may include:

• Which resorts and features you use
• How often routes are calculated
• App crashes or errors (to fix bugs)
• Basic device information (iOS version, device model, country)

What We Do NOT Collect

• No personal information: We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any identifying information
• No precise location stored: Your GPS coordinates are never sent to or stored on our servers
• No account required: You do not need to create an account or log in
• No contacts or photos: We do not access your contacts, camera, or photo library
• No health data: We do not access HealthKit or any health-related data

How We Use Information

The anonymous analytics data helps us:

• Understand which resorts and features are most used
• Identify and fix crashes or bugs
• Improve app performance and user experience
• Decide which new resorts and features to add

Data Storage

All route and map data is fetched from our routing API and displayed on-device. No personal data is stored on our servers. If you delete the app, all local data is permanently removed.

Third-Party Services

PostHog Analytics

We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage statistics. Data is anonymized and aggregated — no personally identifiable information is included. You can learn more at posthog.com/privacy.

OpenStreetMap

Resort map data (pistes, lifts, and points of interest) is sourced from OpenStreetMap, an open-data mapping project. No personal data is shared with OpenStreetMap.

Your Privacy Rights

iOS Privacy Controls

iOS gives you full control over your data:

• Location access: You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > SkiRoute
• Analytics: You can disable analytics sharing in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements

Children's Privacy

SkiRoute is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Because we do not collect personal information, there is no special data handling needed for younger users.

Data Security

Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is minimal security risk. Any data transmitted to PostHog is sent securely using industry-standard encryption (HTTPS).

International Users

SkiRoute is available worldwide. Anonymous analytics data may be processed in the United States or other countries where PostHog operates. This data does not identify you personally.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

European users have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Since we do not collect personal data and our analytics are completely anonymous, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have specific privacy rights under the CCPA. Since SkiRoute does not collect personal information, these rights do not apply to our app.
